Teachers/”Trackside” Parents/College students etc who are interested in athletics coaching or who already assist at club/school/community events and want to elevate their learning, skills and competencies and or become a qualified athletics coach

Programme Content & Delivery
“Welcome to Athletics Coaching”
The coaches provided will have taught UKA coaching modules and may, depending upon availability, deliver the latest updated UKA programme.
This course will support prospective coaches to meet the needs of athletes under 16 years old, predominantly with a multi event focus and will address the issues of child development in a rigorous way. This will be done in an induction orientated environment, working with appropriate equipment. Learn to set up and monitor a group of standard sessions covering a range of Athletics’ events and taught to be able to lead sessions unassisted.
- The power of Athletics Coaching education and excellence based upon/evolved form UKA “Elevating Athletics” coaching module aimed at coaching Primary: 5-11yr olds and Secondary: 11-16yr olds
- Practical sessions on technical models and rules of events including Run, Jump and Throw

L1/L2 Coaches/ Young Athletes/ Sports Teachers etc with an existing qualification or understanding/experience of sports and/or coaching who want to improve, develop and up skills or achieve the next level qualification

There will be two separate experienced/UKA Level 4 coaches provided specialised in each of the Run, Jump and Throw disciplines.
This course will support prospective coaches to meet the needs of young and adult athletes, predominantly with a multi event focus. Participants choose from either Run such as Sprint, Jump such as Long Jump or Throw such as Discus and remain in these disciplines throughout the day.
Our coaches will directly passing on years of invaluable learning and skills, and a passion and motivation that cannot be gained simply from academic study and qualification.
During this programme participants will have the opportunity to put learning into practice by shadowing and assisting elite and Olympian coaches to deliver.

Young, promising athletes that have the potential to develop further with expert tuition and guidance plus their teachers.
Athletes, plus participants from the Programme 2 “Athletics Coaching Masterclass” coaching assist and are mentored by Elite/Olympian coaches for practical coaching experience via these events

Programme Content & Delivery
There will be two separate experienced/UKA Level 4 coaches provided specialised in each of the Run, Jump and Throw disciplines.
The course is aimed at young Athletes, 15-23 years that have been talent spotted and would benefit from further expert tuition and development but is open to all comers.
There is no competition, each participant being motivated and coached to deliver to their best and better their best over the session. Participants choose from either Run such as Sprint, Jump such as Long Jump or Throw such as Discus and remain in these disciplines throughout the day.
Coaches actively coach and mentor participants and their coaches at each session, officials assist the coaches for the Talent Quest events to time, measure and record athlete’s performance throughout the day.
This course will feed directly into the GLL Foundation Awards programme supporting talented and developing Athletes.

Programme Content & Delivery
The coaches will be provided by UKA and deliver this latest 2010 updated UKA programme equivalent to the previous Level 1 qualification. The Children’s/Club Leader award is targeted at those who wish to work primarily with U17s, U15s, U13s and younger in an induction orientated environment, working with modified equipment.
The Children’s / Club Leader will be working from a UKA resource card or session plan and will have been briefed on the exact requirements by the supervising Coach. They may be working at another part of the venue, but a supervising Coach must be on site and will have dictated the exact nature of the session, its content, its safety requirements and its organisation. You can begin your coach education progression by becoming a Leader. The course will teach Leaders to set up and monitor a group of standard sessions covering a range Athletics’ events. Crucially Leaders will be able to lead sessions unassisted but still under the supervision of a qualified Athletics Coach as long as they stick within the remit of the published, standard sessions and task cards.
The anticipated programme will begin with;

Pre-requisites: Signed up to UKA’s terms & conditions of being a Leader, supplied a passport photograph, had the appropriate police records check and is 16 years or above. Completion of home study tasks involving course preparation, viewing activities and familiarising themselves with task cards.
Outcomes: Understand the role and responsibility of a Leader, how it differs from a Coaching Assistant and a Coach and its position within the pathway. Awareness of safety issues when working within a variety of environments. Setting up Fundamentals and Foundation athletics activities using adapted athletics equipment safely and effectively. Run a focussed, organised and safe activity from a task card supplied by a supervising coach. Use effective instruction and demonstration relating to the activity. Contribute to the effective teamwork of running the activities supporting the supervising coach. Identify the principles of athlete centred delivery and be aware of the rationale for late specialisation. Identify methods that may be used to challenge inappropriate behaviour. Use adapted activities as directed by the supervising coach to integrate athletes of differing abilities.

RESOURCE and PROGRAMME COACHES & ATHLETES
The following resource will be deployed to deliver across all 30 events. A pool of Elite coaches and Olympic athletes together with an IAG provider, Young Volunteers to assist the coaches and Officials for the Talent Quest events.

I attended Sunday's Masterclass for sprints, the coach was John Isaac. It was brilliant! I totally recommend you take full advantage of all the courses, especially as they are all FREE.
It was good to have an experienced coach.
I didn't get to do any active or practical work only taught by the coach.
I would have liked to have practiced some of the techniques taught.
I liked the examples tutored by an athlete coach.
I liked the international/champion coach.
Very practical.
I would have liked some handouts or videos.

OLYMPIANS LEAP INTO ACTION FOR ‘GO4KIDS2012’ FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN
Olympic and World 400m champion Christine Ohuruogu joined fellow Olympians at the London Coaching Foundation’s launch event to kick-start their £1m GO4KIDS2012 fundraising campaign.
Ohuruogu, MBE, who works tirelessly to encourage the sport’s grassroots take-up, was officially announced as campaign ambassador of the GO4KIDS2012 campaign at its launch event held last week at Electric Birdcage in London’s West End.
The Stratford-born track star declared: “I personally know that without the support of volunteers, great coaches, access to top facilities, competitive and learning events and constant encouragement from family and friends, I would not be Olympic and World Champion.”
She added: “GO4KIDS is not simply about unearthing the next athletic superstar, it is about reaching children and young people disadvantaged by circumstances. If you offer children and young people a ladder on which they can climb, you are offering them options that can change their lives.”
Olympic 400m Hurdles bronze medalist Tasha Danvers, echoed Ohuruogu’s words, saying: “With London 2012, the time is right to connect and inspire community engagement, empowering young people to develop their knowledge, skills and values, to widen their experiences and help them discover their potential.”
Ohuruogu supported by an impressive line-up of Olympians, elite athletes as well as guests from the sporting, fashion, media and business world, who are keen to support the Foundation’s mission to ensure a sporting legacy for young people after London 2012.
The involvement of Ohuruogu and her fellow Team GB Olympians in GO4KIDS 2012, confirms their commitment to developing the next generation of British athletics. The credibility of the Foundation’s outreach work has been made possible by the motivation and commitment of many of Britain’s international athletes and coaches.
The London Coaching Foundation (LCF), a not-for-profit charitable trust, was set up eighteen years ago to deliver grassroots athletics programmes in the capital, sending elite coaches and international athletes into schools and colleges.
The GO4KIDS2012 pre-launch campaign, will also complement the Foundation’s hugely successful ‘Have a Go Day’ and London Community Athletics Days, which have involved youngsters from schools and communities across London
These programmes are essential strands in the Foundation’s mission to bring athletics, education and excellence to London’s young people.
The funds raised will not only deliver valuable opportunities to promising young athletes, but will also develop and mentor up to ten thousand disadvantaged youngsters of various sporting abilities.
John Herbert, CEO of London Coaching Foundation, four-time Olympian and Team GB coach said: ‘This event proves you can start something with nothing. We hope people look at us as social entrepreneurs and mentors. The GO4KIDS2012 campaign will give inspiration to London’s disadvantaged young kids and our as yet undiscovered young sporting talent leading into 2012.’
Herbert added: ‘This event is also a reminder that these former and current Olympic athletes and coaches take their work with the Foundation’s programmes very seriously and without their volunteering support we would not have kick-started the sporting lives of many young people.’

London Community Athletics Days
London Community Athletics Days are similar to "Have a Go" days. However the big differences are that the days are open to all member of the community, young & old and that we are therefore working with a larger number of people.
There is a similar start to the day with registration, an opening address and introductions. This is followed by a group warm up. Again, participants are encouraged to experience various activities from the 'Run' Jump' and 'Throw' athletic events.
Due to the numbers involved, we ask participants to bring their own lunch and we do not have a Q & A session, so that we can concentrate on the athletic activities.
Everyone is encouraged to round the day of by competing in two of their favourite event(s).
Whilst we do not give out mementos at the Community Athletic Days, there is still the chance to collect a famous autograph or two.
At all times we actively encourage participants to learn more and talk to our team of coaches which include International Athletes and former Olympians. As with the "Have a Go" days, we are able to offer the assistance of a star studied line up that includes Fatima Whitbread, Jade Johnson, Trecia Smith, Yamila Aldama, Greg Rutherford, Tony Jarrett, Julian Golding, Michael MacFarlane and Phillips Idowu.
